VAHN aims to bring ethically and sustainably produced luxury wearables and accessories.

  • Confused about all the green washing statements from well known to smaller brands?
  • How do we curate an ethical and luxurious wardrobe?
  • What can we do to bring 1% change in our wardrobe?

We can collectively work towards a more ethical and sustainable future.

Vahn is my genuine effort to explore possibilities in curating vegan, peace silk, transitional wearable utilizing biodegradable dyes, plant-based garments with linen, and biodegradable leather products. I prioritize aesthetics and design sensibility while partnering with small businesses that can produce on-demand, small batches, and share a commitment to ethical and sustainable production practices.

What is the Story

I grew up in a semi-rural town in the southern most part of India. Father was a Physics professor and my mother a feisty woman who was a part-time seamstress, with a penchant for perfection, later on became a self taught organic farmer. My brother is a self-made thriving entrepreneur in the field of technology.

To be inquisitive, kind and respectful for the environment was an integral part of my middle class upbringing. The arid, rain shadow region only allowed for sparse agricultural lands and less resources including drinking water.

Less resource was never a compromise to an organic, tasty wholesome meal or clothing with a style stamp on it in our household. I grew up watching my grandmother, aunt and my mother creatively sew a recycled, repurposed clothing handcrafted with colorful embroideries.

Families and communities around me utilized resources in the most efficient possible ways to feed, cloth and lead their lives with a minimum consumption, whether it be food or clothing.

I have also witnessed the untreated, toxic effluents from the tanneries that destroyed the agricultural land and polluted the aquifers, putting a wrench on the already limited supply of water in our community. Later, in my adult life, when I traveled to foreign lands, I learned about how the treated hides were exported to western world as a raw material for the leather industry and about the complex supply chains of raw materials that form the underpinnings of a highly polluting fashion industry.

While leveraging a professional background spanning two decades in designing and managing marketing campaigns and business development, I’m now pivoting to pursue my passion project.

VAHN

Means ”Rain” in Thamizh language. The nourishing and life sustaining central force that replenishes, cleanses and nurtures Mother Earth and its inhabitants.

The renowned Thamizh poet Thiruvalluvar, who lived in the early century AD, shares his sagely wisdom in the form of 1330 couplets under 130 titles, dedicates “Vahn Sirappu” – “The greatness of Rain” as one of the titles to emphasize the life source that nourishes an all encompassing environment we live in.

VAHN aspires to learn and grow with a commitment to preserving the complex eco-system we inhabit.
